A Study on Factors Affecting the Increase of Health Care Expenditure -amon OECD countries-

Abstract
The rising healthcare costs become critical problems in health field in recent years. the rate of health care expenditure increase of most developed countries exceeded the economic growth rate in the 1990s, for which systematic measures should be
set
up.
This study analyzed various factors influencing the health care expenditure increase. The objective of study is to identify factors influencing the health care expenditure increase in OECD countries and the most appropriate analysis technique for
the
pooled time-series and cross-section data, that is, panel data. The indekpendent variables selected for this study model are per capital growth domestic products, proportion of public health care expenditure to national health care expenditure,
over
65-year-old elderly population ratio to total population, population-physician ratio per 1,000 persons, medical care component of the consumer price index (MCPI), payment system of health care costs while the dependent variable is per capita NHE
in
OECD
countries.
The pooled time-series data for 1960~1990 of OECD countries were analyzed. the cross-sectional time-series regression analysis was made to estimate regression coefficient. the Fuller and Battese method was the most appropriated analysis technique
among
Fuller and Battese method, Parks method and Da Silva method.
@ES Major findings of the study are as follows:
@EN First, the increase in per capita growth domestic products, elderly population ratio to total population, population-physician ratio per 1,000 persons and MCPI is significantly correlated with the increase in per capita NHE. In particular,
per
capital growth domestic products is the most influencing factor.
Second, the increase in the proportion of public healthcare expenditure is not correlated with per capita NHE reduction.
